The Original Series

As seasoned veteran fans know, ROBOTECH was put together by using animation from three different series. The three series comprise the three generations in ROBOTECH. The original series and their ROBOTECH counterparts are respectively:

I won’t go into the histories of the original series. I will briefly delve into why Robotech was made with the animation from these series.

You see, Harmony Gold wanted to release Macross in the United States. Unfortunately, they needed at least 65 episodes for standard syndication. Seeing how Macross only had 36 episodes, they eventually came up with a plan to combine several shorter series together to make one series of a more suitable length.

Recipe for ROBOTECH:
Start with Macross, add one part Southern Cross, then one part Mospeada. Jumble up the story a bit, tie them all together with a mysterious fuel source, and BANG, you have ROBOTECH.
